I have V dipole antenna system at the hotel in
Alaska.
|
2.Operation bands
This antenna system works from 7 MHz to 28 MHz bands
with 2 rod antennas and antenna tuner.
|
3.Rod antennas and tuner
|
I got antanna elements GNR-60 for 6 metters band(From 60cm minimam length to 300cm(max length) for the V dipole antenna system.
There are 2 variable condensers(250p 1KV) and coil(15 turns of 1.2mmφ tinned wire with 35mmφ diametters

4.Wiring
|
2 condensers and coil which wired by tinned wire
and inductance is adjustable by clip simply.
|
|
 |
Inside of antenna tuner
Big coil is for 7 to 28MHz bands
and small one is for 3.5MHz band.

Antenna tuner for HF bands |
Antenna system have 2 fishing rods with tuner at the balcony in Maui
Island. |
|
|
5.How to make a coil |
Ist coil which has about 27 turnes of tinned wire on a PVC pipe of water.
and coil was streched and easy to pinch by clipper for 7MHz to 28MHz bands.
2nd coil has 35turns of 1.6mmφ enameled wire on a PVC pipe for 3.5MHz band
and 1.9MHz band with about 30m length antenna wire at my home.
|
|
|
6. Adjust of antenna and tuner |
This rod antenna is 3m long each.
So antenna tuner with 4 or 5 turns from the top of the coil between the
2 of 3 meeters element and then tune the frequency on 21MHz band by VC.
27 turns of coil was for 7MHz.
Adjust the proper coil for the other bands
It have to be short about 50cm of 2 rod bantennas for 28MHz band.
If receiver has highest signal lebel to adjust VC with proper coil, SWR
will be close to 1.
Adjust VC and inductance of coil properly until SWR almost
1.

|
7.Coxial cables |
I prepared 2 kind of coxial cables (3m and 7m length)
When SWR adjustment is unstable or critical, I have to change a coxial
cable(add or minus of coxial cable )for the best SWR condition.

8.Results
I got many stations around the world W,VK,ZL,UA,ZP,ZS,JA and others during
my stay in Maui Island Hawaii U.S.A. but I contacted only one station of
Alaska for my stay at Chena hot springs resort hotel at fairbanks in KL7.
I was satisfied with good signal report from many stations around the
world.
It was about -40C outside the hotel at chena hot springs in Alaska, VC
was frozen and no move by cold weather. So I had to warm VC by hair drier
in my room.
And I contacted with only one station, VE7DUB from Canada at my hotel
in Alaska.
I got very clear signal from many JA stations on 40m band with very very
small signal, no S meter move, because of almost no noise at Chena hoto
springs.

Alaska.

|
Lowest temperature was -40 degrees centigrade at night. |
|
9.Trouble |
I was no trouble at my home for portable operation system in KL7 and KH6
but I got trouble at the hotel in Alaska and Maui Island Hawaii that my
transmitter did not stop transmission when I transmited 50W but 10W operation
was no trouble.
I got a CMF filters with me, so I inserted a CMF filter between TX and
key, then troube was disappear.
The cause was unclear that one of the root woud be the difference of the
impedance of power surply between the two coutries JA and KH6.

10. Finaly
|
I imagined that many stations operate ham radio on 40 meters band like
Japan, but no stations work here in Alaska at this time.
I was excited that I contacted with many stations aroud the world in Maui
Island Hawaii on 14MHz band to 24MHz band.
I had not enough time for my operation during stay in the hotel because
I had to keep good relatioship between my wife and me, so my ham radio
operation time was so limited.
So I'd like to appology that I did not contact with many stations calling
me at the time.

The Kea Lani resort hotel in Maui Island
Hawaii.
My wife in Cabana which is prevent stong sunshine and very confortable.
|
 |
Very beautiful Island and the sea
|
I only contacted with one station in Alaska but it was very very beatiful
northern lights and much snow in Chena hot springs in Alaska.
I think that this antenna which I designed was very useful and very easy
to carry. And I satisfied with good performance of this anetnna for HF bands.

Snow in Alaska is so geat and
northern lights is very fantastic
|
KL7/JA3NEP enjoyed Sled of dogs
|
|
I am very happy that my experience for my ham radio operation in Alaska
and Maui Island will be usefull for many amateur radio stations who want
to operate ham radio operation around the world.
See you soon 73 and 88 !!
